Sesquicentennial
Terry and Kris Wirkus are helping to coordinate planning by various parish committees for the Cathedral’s sesquicentennial celebration, which will begin the first weekend in May 2012 and conclude in May 2013.
The Wirkuses spoke about sesquicentennial planning at a Lenten Soup Supper on March 11.
“We are simply helping to coordinate the committees that actually do the work so as to facilitate communication and making sure that efforts aren’t duplicated,” Terry said later. Planning began about a year ago.
“Learning from our history helps guide our future,” Kris said. “It is our hope that the activities of the yearlong celebration will bring together our parish family.”
Some planned activities include:
-- Deanery Months, celebrating what makes specific deaneries special and unique, along with planned pilgrimages from the deaneries to the Cathedral.
-- A book chronicling the history of the Cathedral.
--Special lighting of the steeple.
--Commemorative items designed specifically as a special remembrance of the 150th year for both parishioners and pilgrims.
--A DVD featuring the history of the Cathedral, and featuring its stained glass windows.
